Guatemala Project Tour - January, 2009

The group size for this trip will be 6 - 8 people. Trip highlights include:
  • Assist with scholarship registration in rural villages
  • Attend dedication of Phase II construction at the John Wesley School in Santa Cruz del Quiché
  • Participate in our annual Christmas Milk Program in Lemoa
  • Tour other Pura Vida projects in the area (widows' homes, pastors' homes, chicken coops, stoves)
  • Take time off to enjoy the sights in Antigua
Schedule (January 10 - 17, 2009)
Saturday Jan. 10 - Fly to Guatemala
- Drive to Antigua (~1 hour)
- Check into hotel
- Free time in Antigua
Sunday Jan. 11

- AM: Drive to Camanchaj (~4 hours)
- PM: Visit projects in Camanchaj and Pocoil (scholarships)
- PM: Check into hotel in Chichicastenango

Monday Jan. 12

- AM: Visit projects in Lemoa (scholarships, adobe homes, Maryknoll Sisters, orphanage)
- PM: Distribute milk in Lemoa

Tuesday Jan. 13

- AM: Visit projects in Paxot (scholarships)
- PM: Visit projects in Paquixic (scholarships, pastors home)

Wednesday Jan. 14

- AM: Visit projects in Chontala (scholarships, chicken coops, stoves)
- PM: Visit projects in Santa Cruz del Quiché (scholarships, John Wesley School)

Thursday Jan. 15

- AM: Attend John Wesley School dedication ceremony
- PM: Free time in Chichicastenango market

Friday Jan. 16 - Drive to Antigua (~4 hours)
- Check into hotel
- Free time in Antigua
Saturday Jan. 17

- Drive to Guatemala City
- Fly to Denver (morning departure)

Cost
The total cost for this trip is currently estimated at $700 per person plus airfare. This amount includes all ground transportation, tourist class lodging, and most meals during the trip. Below is the breakdown of what is covered by this amount:

  • Tourist-class lodging (double or triple occupancy)

  • Guatemala City airport security fee ($3.00 or Q20)
  • Dinner beverages other than purified water
